Mississippi Modern is dedicated to empowering and facilitating the art, artists, and cultural dialogue rooted in Mississippi.We strive to work collectively, networking and collaborating with individuals and art communities, locally and internationally, to provide structure and opportunity for growth in the plans and actions of creative participants who push, sustain, and support the arts. Mississippi Modern fulfills its mission by fostering a dynamic online community, issuing art related publications, providing artists with accessible resources and access to the general public, and by facilitating cultural events and projects.
Greg Gandy is a painter, designer, and arts event organizer currently living in Jackson, MS. He has given lectures on social problem solving at Tulane University, cultural cross-fertilization at the University of Southern Mississippi Honors College, and street art at Millsaps College and Jackson State University. Greg has spent the past decade organizing and mobilizing artists and creatives in Mississippi.
Krista Shows is a multidisciplinary artist and designer who works on a variety of projects, alone and with collaborators, from illustration to apparel design to song writing. She received her BA from Mississippi State University, exploring anthropology, journalism, and apparel and textile design.
Hanna is a Masters of Journalism student at UC Berkeley. Her background is in sexual assault crisis response, Russian punk, and generational divides between women in the South. She has experience in documentary + TV production for public broadcasting, radio + web production for the arts and cultural exchange, and non-profit organization and development. She’s lived/studied in Sewanee, TN; St. Petersburg, Russia; Neberezhnye Chelny, Russia; and Berlin, Germany.
Nathan Mullins earned his MFA in Studio Art from American University in Washington, DC and his BFA in Drawing and Painting from The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Nathan has previously studied in New York City; Berlin, Germany; and Cortona, Italy. His paintings have been featured in both domestic and international shows. He is currently teaching at Savannah State University in Savannah, GA
